Mining Bee

Mining bees are also solitary bees and are often found in mounds of soil, in cliffs and quarries.

In the UK we particularly see the ashy and tawny mining bee. The ashy bee derives its name from its monochrome colouring while the tawny bee has an orange coat and black face and is also the size of a bumble bee.

Mining bees are not aggressive. Female mining bees have stingers but they are often too small to penetrate the human skin. If one does get stung it is usually light unlike a wasp.
